In fact, October is the most wonderful time of the year for those looking to feast on independent film and unique big screen offerings.
Regal Cinemas, here in the Old Mill District delivers October’s BendFilm festival as well as simulcast presentations of some of the best ballet and operatic performances in the industry. This fall, the range of special event performances includes The Metropolitan Opera, Broadway musicals, Lincoln Center, Bolshoi Ballet, Royal Opera Ballet, and National Theatre Live.
BendFilm Festival
Returning for its 12th annual event, the BendFilm Festival kicks off on Thursday, October 8th for an exciting celebration of independent film that includes screenings, panels, meetups and parties. The festival runs through Sunday, October 11th with screenings scheduled at the Regal Old Mill 16 as well as venues around Bend and in Madras.
This year the BendFilm festival opens with acclaimed documentary, Breaking A Monster. The film chronicles the break-out year of the band “Unlocking The Truth,” a trio of 12 and 13 year-old musicians through their trajectory of street performance and YouTube sensations to being courted in surreal fashion by the music industry.
Throughout the ensuing days, more than 80 films that span the Feature, Documentary and Short film genres will be screened with select films in competition. A Festival Awards ceremony will recognize Best of Show as well as nine other categories on Saturday, October 10th. An Audience award will also be announced based on feedback from festival attendees. Award-winning films will be screened throughout the day on Sunday, October 11th.

National Theatre Live
William Shakespeare’s Hamlet features Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy. Captured live earlier the same day, the event will be broadcast from London’s Barbican Theatre on October 15 at 7pm
Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts
A dance series of from four of America’s leading companies will include special behind-the-scenes look to meet the principal dancers and catch a glimpse of each company’s rehearsals.

Bolshoi Ballet
Founded in 1776, The Bolshoi Theatre has over 250 dancers and is one of the largest and most celebrated ballet companies in the world. Featured performances include new productions captured live earlier the same day from Moscow.
