Although we revel in special Bend events every month of the year, October may be our favorite for enjoying seasonal treats. With Halloween on the horizon, we put together a list of recommended festivities to increase the fun factor with ideas for all ages.
Historical Haunts Tour – October 23 & 24 4:00 PM
The Deschutes Historical Museum invites visitors to take a walk on the haunted side with the Historical Haunts of Downtown Bend Heritage Walk, October 23rd and 24th, with the first tour beginning at 4pm and the last leaving at 7:30pm.
Tales of Hallows Eve – October 24 6:00 PM
A Halloween party like you’ve never seen! Live animals appear during dramatic readings of cautionary tales. Dare to enter into the haunted Spirit of the West hosted by High Desert Museum.
Full Moon Nature Hike – October 27 8:00 PM
The full moon provides an excellent opportunity to explore the night under the natural light of the moon with interpretation and hosting by Sunriver Nature Center.
Wagner’s Tannhäuser: October 31 9:00 AM
Opera fans rejoice! The Met Opera: Live in HD returns with Wagner’s Tannhauser, captured live from the stage of the Metropolitan Opera. Tickets are now available through Fathom Events.
Old Mill District Halloween Party: October 31 3:00-6:00 PM
Bring your little ones in costume for amazing Kid’s Trick-or-Treating for terrific take-home toys & treats at the stores and restaurants in the Old Mill District. This party has been planned with our youngest Elsas & Dinos in mind.
Some Highlights:
- Arts Station Creative Crafts in center plaza
- Wagon Rides throughout the Old Mill District
- Central Oregon Herpetology Group & Rippin’ Reptiles 4-H Club will have friends on view at REI, Strictly Organic Coffee Co, Simply Mac and Flip Flop Shops
- Pet Costume Contest by the Humane Society will be located by Confluence Fly Shop and Greg’s Grill
- Meet a Great Horned Owl from the Sunriver Nature Center
- Savory Spice is serving Hot Apple Cider
- Whole Foods Market, Kind Snacks and Goodkid Bars are providing healthy snacks

Cyclocross Racing: October 31 & November 1
Cross Crusade Cyclocross races includes two full days of epic racing for all categories on the Deschutes Brewery / Old Mill District course. Everyone is invited to participate in the fun and mayhem of more than 1,000 Cyclocross racers dressed to the nines in their Halloween finery and competing for Cross Crusade series points. In addition to two days of racing, come enjoy the Deschutes Brewery beer garden, live music and the copious food and festivities. Visit www.crosscrusade.com for more information on the races.
ThunderCross Party: October 31 8:00 PM
On Halloween night the post-apocalyptic themed Thundercross party at the Deschutes Brewery Warehouse is going to be out of this world, so start planning your “Mad Max” costumes now and RSVP to their Facebook Event page.
