De Colores: Celebrate Diversity and Community in Central Oregon
The Latino Community Association invite all to join the festivities at the 2023 Gala de Oro on Saturday, May 20 at the Riverhouse on the Deschutes. Organized around the belief that together we thrive – Juntos avanzamos – the evening will truly be a celebration of diversity and community in our region. In addition to live music by Conjunto Alegre, margaritas by Hola!, Latin American-inspired dinner and dancing, LCA staff will share triumphant stories about Central Oregon Latinos who have forged a pathway to success. Not only that, but guests will be treated to an inspiring keynote message by Anthony Veliz. Anthony is the founder of PODER, Oregon’s Latino Leadership Network, and a leader in our region who helped unite Latino organizations across Oregon to protect immigrant communities during the pandemic. The son of migrant farm workers, his community and work experiences speak volumes to his expertise in the growing Latino community of Oregon. He is the first Latino ever elected to the Woodburn School District School Board, the second Latino elected to serve on the city council for the City of Woodburn and he has served on the State Board of Education for 8 years.
The mission of the Latino Community Association is to empower Latino families to thrive, creating opportunities for advancement and building bridges that unite and strengthen us all. LCA envisions a cohesive and diverse community where all people are valued and empowered to participate and contribute to the health and prosperity of Central Oregon.
