Outdoor Family Yoga Event for Racial Justice
July 2, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Join Free Spirit for this donation based Family Yoga event to support the Black Lives Matter Movement in a family friendly and safe environment (kids ages 6 -12 + adult). Part of this movement is to educate our children- to have the complicated and hard discussions about race, racism, injustice, equality and discrimination. During this family yoga event we will read a children’s book on these topics and create a discussion, all while moving through a yoga practice together. When we move our body we can be more open to receiving information. Different yoga practices including partner poses, yoga chants, mudras and breath-work will be introduced to the families to help foster the feeling solidarity and unity. Class will end with families taking the time to create their own signs to put up in front of their homes or to use during peaceful protests so children will have the hands-on experience of actively participating in the Black Lives Matter Movement.
Free Spirit is a space of action, designed to create healthy living activities for families. All the proceeds from this event will go to the The Loveland Foundation, a non-profit that helps communities of color in unique and powerful ways, including providing free therapy to Black women and girls www.thelovelandfoundation.org.
Event will be held on the grass between the bicycle rental shop and walking path in the Old Mill District. Each family will be spaced 6 – 10 feet apart. Bring a yoga mat per person, cardboard or poster paper and markers to make your own signs.
