Pickin’ & Paddlin’ and Whitewater/Surf Festival

September 27, 2017 @ 5:00 am - 2:00 pm

What began as a couple of kayakers creating tunes on the back deck after a long day on the river, has grown into Pickin’ & Paddlin’ 2017, the 8th season of a cult-classic community concert series to raise funds for Bend Paddle Trail Alliance (BPTA). Come enjoy live music and boat demos on the Deschutes River in the Old Mill, on Tumalo Creek’s back lawn. Demos from 4-7pm and concert from 5-9:30pm. Tickets are $5 (children 12 and under are free) and all proceeds go directly to BPTA.

Over the years, this fundraiser has been instrumental in building the Bend Whitewater Park, both financially and as a centerpiece to rally community toward the monumental task of transforming the Deschutes River. To celebrate the success of the Whitewater Park, the first annual Whitewater and Surf Festival will be held at the park, in tandem with Pickin’ & Paddlin’ on August 30th.

After creating and sponsoring Pickin’ & Paddlin’ from inception, Geoff Frank, owner/operator of Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe explains the intention and future of the Whitewater Festival saying, “The community wanted an event to bring all the different Whitewater Park enthusiasts together to celebrate its creation. So Tumalo Creek and The Bend Paddle Trail Alliance organized one. The festival incorporates components of surf and kayaking. Next year the event will be a part of the Subaru Outside Games!”
